Alterations to our story board

We changed our story, and storyboard because we felt that on the location we couldn't achieve the look and atmosphere that we wanted our film to portray, the location also change because we added the bridge and this was to give the film some interest and meaning, we wanted the characters to walk through / past something and the audience to be with them every step of the way and we feel that the bridge helped our film to do this. We fe;lt that because of weather conditions, lighting and other reasoning that we couldn't make the audience feel the way that we wanted them to feel, and to do this we needed the darkness that the bridge provided.

Props list2

As we changed the idea of our film from teenagers stumbling across a book in the woods, we also changed our props as we had the idea to be more creative and work with what we already had, we decided to make the film about a media group going to film their film when one of them mysteriously goes missing.

Props we used to film this:
Camera bag
Tripod bag
Phone to check the time

Newsroom props stayed the same as we used the same footage for our similar film idea.

Newsroom props:
Computer
Table
Windows to show scenery

Description of film 1

Description of our 2 minute film:

Starts off in a news room where 2 newsreaders are reporting teenagers going missing. Then a group of friends take a shortcut home through the woods. Spooky things start to happen and they discover a book full of pictures of missing teenagers who were in the news. As if things won't get any creepier,  Emily begins to flick through the book as whispers are heard through the woods, whispers that are seeming to tempt the girl to go somewhere. The girl goes missing and no one knows what happens to her, all they'll ever know is that when she looked through the book, her picture was found on the next page, practically screaming for help.

-This is our first idea for the description of our film before we later on changed it as we thought it would be a tad more thrilling with better music, less talking and a different setting

Similar films

We used ideas from films that involve dreams such as David Lynch- red room scene and the surreal like eraserhead. We used ideas like Science of Sleep where random things appear in dreams and it doesn't all add up.

David Lynch-similar film This is the scene from the film we tried to interpret into our film as nothing in a dream really makes sense.

However we also wanted our film to have a clear story line and so created the film to be similar to a film named 'Kiss the girls' in which the girl is always the one going missing as is weaker than the male and the setting is similar as the woods are used in both to create a thrilling scary theme. The girl also goes missing in a similar setting...

Our music was similar to a film named 'Filth' as the ending the music is similar to the man who is going to commit suicide, which creates sadness in both. Filth-ending

We used a screen tint on the killers point of view which was inspired by the movie terminator as you can see ....
It's not exactly the same but is similar as it has a slight off colour but only enough to distinguish the difference between the people walking and the killer.

A similar film due to the music from the killers point of view is Sinister as a strange sort of music appears when the unknown killer comes on screen such as when the family are getting murdered. Sinister sound/music scen

  • 3 teenagers are walking through the woods to film their media project
  • The girl who is dreaming senses that she sees something in the woods, weird things start appearing such as creepy music, instances of non continuity
  • She goes missing
  • Throughout the filming from the mystery persons point of view the screen is red signalling danger
  • Strange music comes on from the mystery persons point of view
  • Editing was done in a way that the film doesn't make sense in order to make the nightmare/dream seem weird but yet real to the person who's dreaming about it

Question 6

Setting

We chose the setting of our film to be in the woods at New Miller Dam in a secluded area as we thought that it would fit our plot of the film and allow us to film without any noise or disturbance from passerbys.

Similar films to ours use this wood type setting such as 'Kiss the Girls' which is about a serial killer kidnapping girls and keeping them in the woods, it involves people looking for the missing girls and this relates to our film.

We decided to film our 2 minute film in a different location because for our new film idea, it made more sense to be near a railway bridge as it would be a more like place that someone would go missing.

We tried to re create a typical newsroom and asked our media teacher Simon to act as our news man, we set up a table, computer and lighting in front of a window to make it look like an actual news room, we looked at examples of news room such as...

We then created our news room to look similar that turned out like...

Title sequence

Our title sequence was put onto a black screen, showing the production, who stars, the title and slides to say that the bit of the film we recorded occurred '2 months earlier'. This was how we did it and our finishing results...

Title idea 1

Title sequence: It will be similar to the title sequence of The Evil Dead as it involves a book with words of a different language and pictures as a sign of warning inside.

For this title sequence the book flips pages, and there is strange writing, this will link to the title sequence that we are doing as the pages will be turned. The background behind the book is red to symbolise blood similarly in ours we will use a black/dark background to match our setting, symbolising darkness is overtaking someone.

Plot summary2

Plot summary

3 teenagers go into the woods, despite the news warning about other teens going missing there. The killer can be heard and not seen, which only makes it all the more spooky for Emily Stott and her 2 friends.

Film details

  • The story is about a girl named Emily Stott going Missing when she's out in the woods with her 2 friends, Jake and Daniel.
  • Our plot uses a hand held camera to portray the part of the killer who follows them through the woods as they walk.
  • The film uses flashforwards to a newsreader warning people about the woods and also flashforwards to people in the woods, searching for Emily.
  • We also use a camera on a tripod to film the people walking through the woods beforehand.

TITLE SEQUENCE -The Conjuring

For the title sequence that i am hoping to create with the group, I would hope to pay homage to the comjuring's title sequence as i think that it would relate quite well to the film we are hoping to create, a abandoned house and a book, its because i like the idea that in the title sequence the book is in the background including the book which we could use a similar idea as we would like to include a book as the object that the character will find to start things off.

Screenshot number 1
This screenshot shows how the trailer progresses as the newspaper, i assume because it isn't clear as the shot is an extreme close up, moves through, i think we are purposely not able to be able to decide what the 'newspaper' is whether it even is a 'newspaper' at all, this makes the viewer unsure as we have no clue of a date, location or the characters yet. This is a signifier for a newspaper flicking through and that the signification is the way that it actually looks like a old newspaper. But all in all with the sound effects and music the signification is that something weird is going on we also know this from the writing above the picture 'Haunted Artifacts Museum'.

Screenshot number 2
I think that this screenshot yet again shows the signification of the 'newspaper' because of the heading on this particular story. it also shows us some information about the producers as we now know the editors name 'Kirk Morri.
Screenshot number 3

screenshot number 4
Screenshot number 5
These screenshot's shows us how this particular opening sequence shows us the the characters presumably the main characters in the film, i presume this because they are in the title sequence, this shows they're role in the film and they're authority, including the camera angle as i would say that we are slightly looking up to the character.

Screenshot number 6
This is the end shot of the title sequence personally i like this one because i thing it is a good establishing shot of I abandoned location I presume, i also quite like the framing of the building i think the trees act as a good framing device for the final shot. I also think that the noose also gives a clear insight on whats to come in the film. Hopefully as i have said i would like to pay homage to this title sequence when we are doing ours and this shot may be something that we use, something like this as we are thinking about using a abandoned building to film in so this shot is very relevant to our ideas.

My idea is to take shots of each of the places we will visit in our filming and use them in the title sequence as this on does, this is to give a sense of what is going to happen in the film. then with these shots maybe put a filter over and use a old book to five the same impression that it does in The Conjuring's title sequence.
