Visual images of film
Our semantic field of words would be things such as dark, book, and abandoned house and so we would use images to represent these things as it's basically the visual images of our film.The book is used as a prop to set the genre and plot as a teenager reads it and strange things happen because of that.
The film would use an abandoned house to be added to the main idea of the plot and make the scenes a lot more thrilling as the audience know something will go wrong in an abandoned place otherwise it wouldn't be abandoned.
The setting would be in a dark place such as a field or woods where abandoned creepy places would be found. This type of setting is a main point of horror films.

Cabin in the woods
This trailer has similar things happening in it that relates to our film i.e. finding an item in a house and making something happen, they find a book and read an extract which causes zombies to appear due to the spell/summoning that is read out. Ours is about 3 teenagers that go into an old barn/building and read a Latin extract from a book which then makes something rise up from the past and then one of them disappears. We're paying homage to this film as we're using ideas from it to create ours.
In this movie there's a character that's not very brave but feels as though they need to do something to impress the rest of the group which is similar to Emily and the person who reads the extract out loud in the Cabin in the Woods is silly for doing so and leads the others to danger.

Genre conventions of horror/thriller:setting
The genre of our film is horror/thriller.
Houses like this are a typical scene and they are away from other people, so they are normally haunted or something isn't right about them, by showing the gates as broken and swinging it connotes fear, something that makes the audience scared of it.
The places used have a bad history or a story behind them that makes the character go to them.
Typical backdrops are forests, countryside, lakes, old hotels/motels, graveyards.
They are normally set in a close knit community or an isolated place.
In an inner city it is normally, an alleyway or maybe outside of a a building or a dark street.
if it is in an abandoned place you can normally see a deserted house, or maybe a run down building.

First two minutes description.
first two minutes description
Title opens with film title - pushed out by the fence, and youths jump over, wearing 'normal' clothes and are relatively fashionable tinny sound of metal fence 'clangs'
Cuts to them entering the building
building is old and run down probably appears derelict, and is dirty, size doesn't really matter, as-long as the exterior from this point of view is that it is abandoned and 'dirty'.
they are then shot breaking in (shot from inside?)
shows feet stepping through the building wearing trainers or boots and the area on the interior seems dusty and again, disused the dust puffs up with every footstep and the sound is prominent.
Flashes to the future and shows what happens (bad things, the noise starts playing, (noise for the ring going on) the future shows individual heavy breathing, scared and heart beat maybe in the background.)
quiet and lonely, breath and footsteps heard, feet are seen again stepping through the floor and building rubble, dusty and misty and sound is quite loud - dominating the others.
Cuts to upstairs and then the future again, shows another individual scared and running screaming this time, more intense, heavy breathing and the heart rate/thuds returns
Cuts back to the charectors and they find the 'shrine' fast cuts here to give pace and atmospheric feelings and a strong tensity.
Shrine is full of odd items, hints are given to death and it looks very much like a stalkers hideout, momento's of people, candles, necklaces and rings but one is obviously more significant that the others.
it cuts through time, (fade, and the heart rate slowly fades in as the image does.) and they take the ring (the noise happens)?
a final cut shows the future again and the individuals flash past, all of them, scared and maybe dead this time - very intense or in pain, crying, or some bad fate happening, like flash backs to the future.
everything flashes off and a new scene is shown
The friends are together, happy and are walking somewhere, down a street, through a wood, and happier music returns, laughing and smiling, they all go to one friends house, and they are happy, they meet other friends, such as a parent and a pet, sister/brother etc, these may be shown in the previous flashes to the future, on the phone to friends explaining their situations or to counsellors or even more serious authorities worrying and panicking.
when the individuals are filmed in the building, they can be filmed from above in adams house and dust can be easily introduced, filmed literally through the cracks in the floor/floorboards.

Film Ideas
film ideas
purge based film
crime or murder legal for one night and a family/group of friends aren't looking forward to it and decide to stick together for the event, the morning of the purge appears and it is on the news and they are discussing it at breakfast
the night of the event comes and the hide out in a home, having just moved in they aren't familiar with the neighbours and if they would have known of the event they wouldn't have moved there but the estate agents aren't obliged to tell them,
previous owners of the house were murderers or criminals and the town/village want their revenge - go to kill them etc,
the new family/group of friends try to explain but justice is on the towns mind, they have to run and fight for themselves and are forced out of their home/hideout and into the woods, they have to fight and ambush the town and, some die and others survive in the end, but they have to start a new town and abolish the law of the event.

derelict house that a group of friends break into, they're about 15, they find a gothic shrine of some sort and take a ring/necklace etc, once they put the ring on, things start to happen, seeing things etc, hearing things from the previous owner. the shrine is in the news and the owner sent to jail - criminal, murderer of some sort, the ring was one of his victims?
eventually the ring begins to 'torment' the people and their parents are in disbelief of their stories, they eventually decide to return the garment and weird things happen in the house, which the have to break into again, weird things happen in the house and they cry for help but by the time it comes it is too late
alternative ending - they return the garment and head home, they have had it too long and it has taken over their lives, they are driven mad and end up killing their family and themselves on the same night that they have planned since returning the garment.
